For Benedek, music does not end at the edge of the keyboard.
It spills into image, landscape and memory—and sometimes into new compositions.
A Swiss-Hungarian pianist, teacher and filmmaker based in Basel, he is drawn to works that resist easy answers. He likes to examine them closely, shift the angle and discover what they might still reveal.
In Die goldenen Berge, Bach’s Goldberg Variations meet a film that Benedek conceived, shot and directed. The images do not explain the music; they open another space around it—at times parallel, at times contradictory.

His forthcoming album with the French label Artalinna, Bagatelles, grew from a different kind of curiosity.
After living and breathing in this world of miniatures of Beethoven, Bartók, Sibelius and Tcherepnin, Benedek felt his own responses begin to emerge. Three new bagatelles gradually found their place within the programme.
His path has taken him to more than twenty countries, from Beijing to New York, in recital, chamber music and alongside major orchestras. Yet beneath every concert, recording and image lies the same curiosity: how can we restore a sense of the unexpected to something we thought we already knew?
Listen differently. Look a little longer. And perhaps leave with a renewed hunger for art and beauty.
